TOPIC: When Your Child Turns 18: What You Need To Know About Special Needs Guardianship

GUEST SPEAKER: Melanie M. Bell, Probate Judge of Newton County

DETAILS: When your child has special needs, guardianship is an important consideration. In Georgia, as soon as your special needs child turns 18, he becomes a legal adult and is assumed to be able to make decisions on his own behalf unless a court determines otherwise. As a result, you may consider applying for guardianship so that you can continue to make important medical and financial decisions on behalf of your child. At this workshop, Newton County Probate Judge Melanie Bell will provide an overview of the special needs guardianship and the application procedure. This workshop is free and open to the public.
