The Newton County Board of Education is responsible for adopting the school system's final budget and setting the millage rate. School principals and central office administrators submit their proposed budgets to the school system's superintendent and associate superintendents for review in early spring. After a review process a finalized tentative budget is presented to the Newton County Board of Education. Work sessions are held so the school board can discuss and review the data. After the school board adopts the tentative budget, the proposed budget and millage rate is advertised in the county's legal organ. The school board then holds public hearings to receive input from the community. The school board adopts the final budget and millage rate in the board's June monthly meeting.
