Newton County School System is looking for outstanding teacher retirees to return to work. In fact, the school district has three exciting opportunities just for teachers who have recently retired from the Georgia Teachers Retirement System:
- Return to Work Full-Time and Still Collect Retirement Benefits
- Job Share--Return to Work .49 and Still Collect Retirement Benefits
- Substitute Teach-Work When Available and Still Collect Retirement Benefits
That’s right. Educators who have retired may now return to work, earn teacher’s pay, and STILL collect all retirement benefits! Review the options below and apply today at

OPTION #1: Return to Work Full Time (House Bill 385) and Still Collect Retirement Benefits
- Educator must have been retired for one full year to be eligible for employment and hold a valid teaching certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission
- Educator must have 30 or more years of creditable service
- Educator must be employed as a classroom teacher in a full-time capacity for pre-kindergarten through grade 12
- Educator must work in highest need areas determined by Griffin RESA. In NCSS that would be Special Education, Science, or Math
- NCSS will pay the employee contribution plus the employer contribution for the retiree hired under HB 385
*Note: Retirees will not earn additional service credit nor accrue additional contributions and interest
OPTION #2: Job Share-Return to Work .49 and Still Collect Retirement Benefits
- Educator must have been retired for 60 full calendar days and hold a valid teaching certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission
- Educator may share position with another educator and work .49
- Educator may work any teaching or paraprofessional position
*Note: Retirees will not earn additional service credit nor accrue additional contributions and interest
OPTION #3: Substitute Teach and Still Collect Retirement Benefits
- Educator must be a Georgia TRS retiree and hold a valid teaching certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission
- Educator must apply to be added to the NCSS Substitute Teacher roster
- Educator must complete employment approval request for a Retiring Returning to Work full-time/part-time
