NEWTON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM BENEFITS OVERVIEW
Health Insurance administered through the State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP)

State Retirement Plan administered through the Teacher Retirement System (TRS)

Supplemental Retirement Savings Program
- For TRS eligible employees, the school system contributes 5.5% of annual salary
- Employees are required to contribute .5% of annual salary
Life Insurance
- The School System provides free life insurance for each full-time employee in an amount equal to an employee's annual salary (rounded up to the next thousand) plus $5,000
- In the event of an accidental death an additional $5,000 benefit is provided
- Coverage is available for dependents at a low-cost premium
Disability Insurance
- The School System provides free long-term disability insurance for all full-time employees
- At a low-cost premium, the School System provides short-term disability insurance for all full-time employees
Critical Illness/Cancer Insurance
- The School System provides, through ALLSTATE, an optional premium-based critical illness policy
Dental/Optical/Hearing Reimbursement Plan
- Direct Reimbursement Plan for all full-time employees which covers 55% of most dental, hearing, and optical expenses up to a maximum of $2,200 in annual reimbursements
- Direct Reimbursement Plan also covers 100% of the first $150 of preventative service
Flexible Spending Accounts
- Health-care spending account - maximum annual employee pretax contribution is $2,750
- Dependent-care spending account - maximum annual employee pretax contribution is $5,000
Credit Union Membership
- The School System is a participant in the Georgia United Credit Union
- Payroll deductions are permitted for contributions to the Credit Union, the Covington-Newton County United Way, the Georgia Association of Educators, and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators
Leave Benefits
- Sick leave is earned at the rate of 1 1/4 days per month times the number of months worked
- Three sick leave days per year may be taken as personal leave
