Alcovy Theatre Troupe Triumphs at Region 3-AAAAAA Championship: A Night of Wins and Laughter

Alcovy Theatre Troupe Members with TrophyIn an incredible display of talent, the Alcovy Theatre Troupe secured a resounding victory at the Region 3-AAAAAA Championship held on Saturday, October 28th, 2023. The team's outstanding performance of While Shakespeare Slept not only earned them the coveted title of Region 3-AAAAAA Champions but also garnered individual awards, setting the stage for a thrilling journey to the state competition at Carrollton High School on Saturday, November 18, 2023.

The cast, under the direction of Alcovy High School Theatre Instructor, Ms. Jenica Brittingham, and her assistant director Michael Vickery, brought the comedic masterpiece to life. The play, While Shakespeare Slept, takes a hilarious twist as the renowned William Shakespeare, portrayed by senior Mickey Webb, abandons his illustrious career in theater to become a stable hand at an inn owned by Mistress Ford, played by the talented Victoria Hardy (Senior).

Webb's stellar portrayal of Shakespeare didn't go unnoticed, as they clinched the Best Actor award. Adding to the accolades, the Alcovy Theatre Troupe had several members recognized with All-Star Cast Awards. Carly Hollowell (Junior), Abigail Kitchens (Senior), Gracie Vinzant (Senior), and Elizabeth Bryans (Senior) each contributed outstanding performances, earning them well-deserved recognition for their contributions to the success of the play. The supporting cast, including Nathan Mantle (Sophomore), Marcus Aikens (Junior), Abbegayl Crooms (Junior), Solé Hughes (Sophomore), and Kou Weaver (Senior), played pivotal roles in bringing the story to life.

Behind the scenes, the crew, led by stage manager Jasmine Crowe (Junior), light designer and operator Adam Smith (Senior), and sound designer and operator Dioni Diaz (Junior), worked tirelessly to create a seamless and engaging production. The contributions of Alex Pollett (Senior), August Mullinax (Junior), Gracie Reymundo (Senior), and the entire crew were essential to the production's success.

The Alcovy Theatre Troupe now prepares to represent their region at the state competition at Carrollton High School on November 18.
